In June 2024, we established the “Cross-Field Research Association of Human-centered Cyber Lifeline” (hereafter referred to as the HCL Research Association) as a Type III Technical Committee under the Communications Society of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE).

In the future society of the 6G era, as the integration of cyberspace and physical space becomes more pervasive, the transformation of information and communications into a “cyber lifeline” that incorporates concepts such as sensing, computing, AI, and security will become essential. To build a cyber lifeline, collaboration and integration with all fields related to human activities, in addition to the information and communications infrastructure, are indispensable. However, the widespread utilization of information and communications technologies has already begun to transform the relationships across various domains. This has revealed a growing gap between the technologies provided by the information and communications sector and the technical requirements demanded by other fields.
To bridge this gap and enable information and communications to truly become the lifeline that supports human society, it is necessary to create a platform where experts from diverse fields can engage in close interactions, share common goals, and collaboratively work on the same research and development initiatives. This led to the establishment of the new Type III Technical Committee.
Moving forward, we will host research meetings and engage in cross-disciplinary activities beyond the boundaries of academic societies to create and deepen the understanding of the value of information and communications as a lifeline.
