Overview of the Exhibition at iPOP2026
The Nakao Laboratory at the Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, will exhibit at the international exhibition iPOP2026, which will be held at Keio University Yagami Campus from July 30 to July 31, 2026. As part of our efforts toward the social implementation of next-generation network infrastructure technologies, we will present and explain technologies for the flexible deployment of local 5G networks.

Portable Compact Local 5G Base Station Technology (※1)
We will showcase key technologies designed to rapidly establish communication coverage in disaster situations and in areas where permanent communication infrastructure is not available. We will introduce a compact local 5G base station developed by our laboratory that integrates components ranging from core network functions to power amplifiers into a single system. By limiting the total weight to 5.5 kg, the system can be easily transported by hand, enabling rapid deployment in the field.
Aerial Area Deployment Using Mobile-Mounted Base Stations
As part of an international collaborative research project with the University of Oulu, Finland, we are investigating technologies for flexibly extending communication coverage from the air by mounting compact base stations on mobile platforms such as drones. Based on demonstration experiments conducted using Japan’s local 5G frequency bands in a regulatory sandbox environment, we will present an overview of evaluation results on aerial radio propagation characteristics and communication connectivity with remote locations through panels and videos.
